POD: Geometry Essay
Geometry Semester 1 Essay
First semester of geometry was great in my opinion. I felt like I understood the material well, and that I learned a lot. There were some things that helped me a lot to feel like I had it memorized. Certain tasks were proven to be helpful for understanding the material, and some didn’t really help to get it memorized. There were only a few things that I didn’t like, but for the most part, everything seemed to be helpful.
Some of the things that worked for me were taking notes, because writing down notes seems to help my memory of the topic, getting a lecture from Ms. Cooper, because she explains the material well and helps me to understand how to do it, and working on worksheets, because they also help me to get familiar with the material and challenge me. I also like working together with people to figure out certain projects that Ms. Cooper gives us because I like hearing other people’s opinions. I would like to keep all these things the same.
Some things that didn’t work very well for me were collaborating with students on topics but not filling stuff out individually. I actually like to work with people, but it can be hard when they don’t participate to help fill out and complete the project or paper Ms. Cooper gives us. I’m not very good at “breaking the ice” either, so it’s hard for me to ask them to help out. The other thing I don’t really like are the textbook investigations. I don’t find them very helpful to me. If I could change something, I would change working out the textbooks. That’s all for what I don’t like, and I’m excited to learn more about Geometry next semester, because I like Geometry a lot!

Reflection: I learned how to perpendicular bisect with a compass and straight edge. After learning how to make the bisection, or a "jesus fish", we took the perpendicular bisectors in a disneyland map. We measured the distances in the rides to find which rides are closest using the bisectors. I learned how to map regions in this exercise.

Reflection:
In this colaboration we learned the steps to solving word problems, and applied them togther to solve a single word problem with our group. We learned how to make a diagram for the problem, and take the measurments for it so it could be solved. We identified key words, and worked together to figure out the anwer. I learned how to solve word problems more efficiently.

POD#3 Complete the Quadrilateral
Reflection: In this POD, we learned to identify the shapes, and definitions of different Quadrilaterals. We used textbooks as a source for this information. After that we drew some more shapes, and took the area of them all in square units. I learned many different Quadrilaterals, and how to take the area of them in square units

POD#1 Roller Coaster Analysis
Doctumentation of my Analysis: |
Brief Description:
I chose to do the Intimidator as my roller coaster for this analysis. After picking my image, I put it into Geogolbra, and started putting in the points for my drop. I first put a point at where I thought the drop started, then where it ended, and then put the last in so it would be a triangle. Using the tools in Geogolbra, I took the geometry for the points and compared them to the information the ride statistics gave me from online. I found that the results were close to the same. The orignal statistics said the angle of decent was 85 degrees, but mine was 76 degrees. My picture was a little hard to work with, so I roughly got 76. If I had a better picture, I might have done a better job. |
Name of Roller Coaster: Intimidator
Ride Statistics:
Height: 305 ft.
Speed: 90 mph
Drop: 300 ft.
Angle of decent: 85 degrees

Key Concept Questions:
1. The sum of the angles in any Triangle are 180 degrees. 2. The sum of the two smaller triangles in a right triangle equals 90 degrees. 3. The two smaller angles of a right triangle are 90 angles. |
